Past Health Hub Talks:

Rhea Crighton, Gynecological Health and Wellbeing (6th March, 2024)

Specialist Nurses Rhea and Anna delivered an evening of enlightening and vital information with an emphasis on women's gynaecological health and wellbeing. Many different topics were covered with open discussions amongst those in attendance, including hygiene, gynaecological cancers and what to look out for, knowing your anatomy, as well as sex, intimacy and body image after menopause. ARC Gym Coach Catherine attended the talk and said, “The biggest take away for me was know yourself - look, feel, touch, and trust your gut feelings. Don’t delay, don’t be embarrassed, seek help, and talk to people.”

Mark Clayton, Is My Heart OK? Cardiac Health and Blood Pressure (1st May, 2024)

ARC Health Hub was thrilled to welcome such a large number of people from the ARC community and beyond to our second free talk of 2024. It was yet another fantastic evening, hosted by retired GP Mark Clayton, who brought a heartfelt, inspiring and accessible feel to the evening as he discussed cardiac health from a personal and practical perspective.

Mark covered topics such as ‘how old is your heart' (check out the NHS website https://www.nhs.uk/health-assessment-tools/calculate-your-heart-age), and we had incredible and courageous testimonials from two ARC members who had suffered heart attacks themselves. Mark covered some of the big indicators for our heart health - the biggest being your family history, diabetes and smoking.

The message I took away loud and clear is we are all individuals and all at risk, so get yourself checked if you have a family history, drink plenty of water, and learn CPR. The British Heart Foundation (https://www.bhf.org.uk) is a great place to start to find out more, and finally: if you see a car parked up with hazard lights on, go and check on the occupant… you may just save their life!
