The ARC Tennis Summer Open for Adults and Juniors took place from 25th May to 2nd June and delivered some fantastic tennis. The weather wasn’t quite what we would hope for - we experienced all four seasons during the week - but conditions were great for the final weekend.
During the Summer Open there were 30 different events over 9 days of competition, with 225 competitors aged 6 and up playing 470 matches!
The week began with the Men’s and Ladies Vets Doubles and a fiercely fought match. Thursday saw 78 children (U8, U9 & U10) at ARC for our singles events, coming from as far away as Bolton, Wales and Kent to compete. For the first time ever we were able to have separate Boys and Girls events in all three age groups. This would not have been possible without the help of our great team of Junior volunteers who were on court scoring - our thanks go to Heidi, Jayden, Oscar, Oli, Ryan, Rudi, Amelia, Theo M, Meredith and Leia.
Events for older juniors were well supported and the compass draws meant that everyone found their own level in the end. It was great to attract enough girls to hold both singles and doubles events this year, and for the first time we hosted an U11 Girls Singles event.
We had 33 children from ARC enter the Open, with the following players claiming trophies:

Winsome Trophy for Most Improved & Successful ARC Junior in this tournament went to Jayden Lovelock
The adults tournament did not disappoint with exciting late night doubles of a very high standard, spectators wrapped in blankets enjoying cakes. Competition was fierce from both home and visiting players. The Men’s Singles title went to ARC member Emerson Styles who fought off 15 year old ARC member Euan Greenslade in his first Open Final.

Remember that all events are either Compass Draw or Round Robin, so you’ll get to play 3/4 matches and only need to commit 1/2 days or evenings to compete.
