Communications Officer

Atlantic Racquet Centre (ARC) are seeking to appoint a Communications Officer to join our team of friendly, skilled and experienced customer facing support staff.

ARC is a community racquet & fitness centre where everyone can exercise, socialise and learn together. The centre currently boasts over 1200 members regularly accessing our 10 tennis courts, 3 badminton courts, 2 table tennis tables, 2 squash & racketball courts and large functional fitness gym. The final phase of the project is set for completion in 2024 and will include a multi-sports hall and community café.

The Communications Officer will be responsible for preparing the majority of communications & marketing output for the centre. They will work with our management team to put together a new communications strategy & plan and then take the leading role in implementing it. They will be responsible for creating content for social media on multiple platforms, managing our various social media accounts, designing graphics & posters, taking photo’s & videos of centre activities, writing articles for our website & newsletters and editing & curating our weekly & monthly e-newsletters.

We are looking for someone to take a journalistic approach to our communications. Reporting on and promoting the many fantastic community focused sessions, events and activities that take place at ARC on a daily basis. We are looking for someone to help us better communicate and engage with our audience and to help us tell the incredible ongoing story that is ARC.

As with all of our support team, the role will be primarily based on our main reception desk meaning the Communications Officer will also take an active role in greeting people with a smile, answering the phone, and helping members & users wherever possible.

Though this new role is initially starting at 13.5 weekly hours, there is great potential for this role to grow significantly in the first year and we are looking for someone interested in this potential growth.

Essential requirements of the successful candidate:

·       Experience of creating content for and managing business social media accounts

·       Experience in the use of design software to create graphics, posters & flyers

·       A good writing ability with experience of writing articles or short-form copy

·       Good customer service skills with experience of customer facing roles

·       Excellent IT literacy and ability to use online software & systems

·       A quick learner and open to learning new skills.

·       Willing to work as part of a large team and be a good team player.

·       Open to growing role and taking on more hours

·       Flexibility to work occasional evenings/weekends to report on events & sessions

Additional desirable skills:

·       An interest in racquet sports or fitness

·       Experience of web design/website management

Position type: Permanent

Pay:                 £11 - £13 p/h based on experience

Hours:             13.5 hours per week with occasional overtime expected at weekends/evenings to report on events and activities.

Monday 1.15pm – 4.45pm
Tuesday 7.45am – 2.45pm
Wednesday 2.15pm – 5.45pm

Growth in hours expected with future hours likely to include at least one late evening and weekend half-day.
