On Saturday 3rd August the ARC community was out in force for our Grounds and Maintenance Day. Maintaining our extensive site is no small task, with the vast majority of grounds and maintenance work completed by a very small team of volunteers, led by Phil and Simon. It was incredible to see volunteers, staff, members, friends and families all join us for the day, and make such an impactful difference.
The work completed on the day was vital in maintaining ARC’s high levels of cleanliness, comfort and accessibility that benefit all our visitors. Thanks to the efforts of everyone who came along for Grounds & Maintenance Day we were able to:
Pressure wash one whole face of the ARC building and our welcome signage
Clean filters on our gym air conditioning systems to greatly improve functionality
Cut back hedges across the length of the site
Remove weeds from gravel areas
Tidy up the gravel in our car park
Pressure wash and clean 30 plastic chairs
Install an anti-slip walkway on our wooden steps, and replace a rotten sleeper
Maintaining ARC’s grounds is a year-round job and would not be possible without the efforts of our Grounds & Maintenance Volunteers. Unlike some of our more structured volunteer roles, the commitment as a Grounds & Maintenance volunteer is very flexible - after a short induction volunteers give as much or as little time as they’d like.
Volunteers are an essential part of the ARC team, and are at the heart of our vision to be a community racquet and fitness centre where everybody can exercise, socialise, and learn together.
